Trying out mineral cosmetics: Glo-minerals review

It is been a while that I am looking online about mineral make up and trying to read reviews and gather information because the whole concept. I had tried mineral eyeshadows so far (glamour doll eyes, concrete minerals) and of course some mineralized MAC products and I liked them a lot but my many concern was to try out some face products. So when I was given the chance to try out some products by Glōminerals I was very excited.

Let's start by saying that many of you might not have heard about the company especially if you are not into mineral make up, because Glōminerals is a company recommended by plastic surgeons, dermatologists and skincare specialists and not wiely available in stores. They claim to contain pharmaceutical-grade ingredients, natural high-pigment minerals, nourishing vitamins and powerful antioxidants. Although there is some discussion concerning lower quality mineralized products that they cause allergic reactions and break outs in sensitive skins, this is not the case for Glōminerals. They are considered hypoallergenic, perfect for sensitive skins. Also they contain inflammatory agents and that makes them perfect for problematic skins or use after various procedures. They do not contain chemical dyes, talc or perfume and the vast majority of their products are paraben-free and gluten-free (there is a short list of the products that are not on their site, impressive). Cosmovogue, the company that distributes Glōminerals were kind enough to send me a selection of product test samples to try out and I am using these since the day I got them and I can say that these products exceeded my expectations. Let's check them one by one.

First of all, I tried out the primers of the whole bunch. I really appreciate primers as products and I consider them to be an important step in my make up routine. Their gloFace Primer is a silicon based clear gel that applies beautifully onto the skin, filling lines and smooths to prepare the perfect canvas for the rest of your make up. This primer is one of the very few products that contain gluten derived ingredients. It is easy to apply, doesn't need a huge amount to cover your face and really helps my foundation to apply and stay longer. I was sent the full sized product that contains 14.7ml and costs 39CHF (26 USD). I have to admit that although I have some other primers (mostly silicon ones) that contain around 15 ml, I would prefer this to contain a little more product. Having said that, you really need just a bit and certainly much less than for other type of primers (like liquid or cream ones).

The next primer I got is the under eye primer. Well I was really excited about this one because this is the first under eye primer I have tried, except Benefit's Stay don't stray (which I really dislike a lot) that is an eyeshadow and under primer (or at least it is supposed to be). This one is completely different. First of all it is like a makeup and a skincare product in one. It also contains silicon polymers to fill the fine under eye lines but it contains the known Grant-X peptide (with GABA) that has anti-aging action and helps the refinement and appearance of fine lines. Wow sounds really cool, doesn't it? Well it is too soon to evaluate the anti-aging action but I am very content with the priming one. It reminds me the consistency of my favorite eyeshadow primer (Too Faced' s shadow insurance) and it applies very nicely, helps my concealer, eyeliner or even my mascara to stay put and I love it. I know it might sounds like too much products but as I said I am a strong believer in primers and I want my make up to be able to last all day literally (and it does)! This under eye primer contains 11,7ml (I received the full size also) it costs 38CHF (29 USD) and it needs the tinniest dot for each use.

Next product I tried out is the Under eye gloConcealer. This contains two shades that you can blend to achieve the perfect shade you need. It is quite creamy and perfect for the under eye area, to conceal your circles (remember to try to achieve the same shade as your skin is and not lighter otherwise you highlight your circles and do not conceal them) but I also like it for covering spots or hyper-pigmentation marks on the rest of my face. It contains also the same antioxidants blend of vitamins and green tea extract as most of their products do. I was sent the shade natural in a trying sample that contains 2gr of product. I believe that my actual shade is beige (that comes with a more pink undertone) but still I quite like this one especially the lighter shade of the duo. The full size product comes in a 3.1gr packaging and retails for 43CHF (31 USD).

You can see swatches of these 3 products in the above picture (unblended of course), I believe it is obvious how light consistency the primers have and how creamy the concealer is.

Next is the only Glominerals product that I had heard for and really wanted to try out, their infamous gloPressed base. And yes this is a really famous mineral product especially in the US. This is a powder foundation that claims to offer a semi-matte coverage and can be built up to result from  sheer to full coverage. It is suggested for all skin types (even or should I say especially, sensitive ones) and it comes out in 21 shades (quite impressive I believe).

I was sent a sample of 3 shades to try out: honey light, honey medium and natural medium. Unfortunately none of these were light enough to match my skintone. Το use them more easily I put them in an ELF eyeshadow palette and have them all together (isn't it practical?) I mostly combined the honey light and especially the natural medium shade to achieve the closest to my skin tone possible (I believe that I need to try out beige light and medium or natural light to find my perfect match). I really liked how this applies. In one of my latest Youtube videos many of my Greek followers noticed that my make up looked very fresh and flawless. Well it was these products right here. I firstly spray my face with a fixing spray (I used MAC's Fix+) and then using a kabuki or a foundation brush that is good for mineral-powder foundation, I apply this on my face and then I am going again over it to achieve the desired coverage. It is like this product melts onto my skin, I looove the result, can't wait to see how this would be with my matching shade.

The full size contains 9.9gr and retails 72CHF (43 USD). Yes, it is really on the pricey side (just a bit less than my Chanel and Lancome foundations) but I believe this is a unique product indeed that justifies its reviews. Also it is easy to carry with you and re-apply whenever you need to freshen up. Bonus: no need to use a separate powder.

Last product might be one of my favorites, a glominerals powder blush in the shade sheer petal. This is a beautiful natural pink shade that I think it compliments many skintones. It very pigmented but can be applied with a light hand for a more natural result. I love that it stays all day, looks very fresh and natural and doesn't need extra highlighter. I 've worn it nearly every single day since I got it and for sure I would like to check some of the other available shades, 14 in total. I received 3.4gr of product and I believe that is how the full size also contains. It retails for 35CHF (26 USD). For me the only disadvantage is the small quantity of the product although you just need to touch it with your brush to get the quantity you need.

This is my view on these Glominerals products, I received for reviewing. Although I have not paid for any of these with my own money, I am giving you my honest opinion as always. Glominerals products have surprised me pleasantly and although they run on the expensive side, they had proved to deserve their price tag. I am very glad that I was given the opportunity to know a new brand for me and review its products for you. Have you ever tried Glominerals products? What do you think about them? What do you believe about mineral cosmetics?

  1. Great review hun! This under eye primer sounds sooo good! I hate it when the concealer sets in fine lines or fades during the day so this is exactly what I need :D

  4. Fortunately my skin isn't very sensitive but I still find the whole concept of mineral make up very attractive.I've read that what makes mineral makeup different from traditional makeup isn't the ingredients it contains but what’s left out and that's the main reason I'd like to try them out.
As you can guess I'm really impressed by the under eye primer.
